Sign Up for Global Voices
Educators Financial Group is the exclusive sponsor of the Global Voices program, which provides educators in Ontario tools to help nurture global citizenship and equip students in our classroom with the knowledge they need to effect change. To promote this vision, Global Voices publishes a weekly newspaper column in the Toronto Star, written by Marc and Craig Keilburger, founders of Free The Children. A complimentary lesson plan is available for each column that will help teachers bring current world issues into the classroom.
A tool to help you in the classroom
Katy Whitfield a secondary teacher at Vaughan Road Academy in Toronto, uses the Global Voices program to introduce her grade 10 Civics lessons, "It aligns perfectly with the course expectations, which are to support informed, purposeful and active citizenship in our students. Not only are the students learning to question and interpret media reports, they are gaining new awareness, and exploring ideas about how they can play a role as a global citizen."
Three thousand educators surveyed about Global Voices
Since the program began, more than 3,000 educators have signed up to receive weekly classroom activities that help students learn about important social and global issues. Free The Children surveyed these educators in September 2009 to get their feedback on the program.
